What should you do with that old shell collection?
If you’ve been asking yourself this question, then The San Diego Shell Club
would like to help.
First of all, please be aware that the San Diego Shell Club does not BUY shell collections.
If you are interested in 1) donating, or 2) assessment of whether your collection qualifies for a legacy auction, we will need to know the following information:
~ what you would like to do with your collection (e.g., donate them or acquire money for them);
~ where the shells are located (e.g., city and state);
~ how many shells you anticipate are in your collection;
~ whether the shells have collection data slips (e.g., this can be a small piece of paper connected with or placed in the shell that lists the name of the shell, where and when the shell was collected, and by whom); and
~ what are the condition of the shells (i.e., if you could provide images of some of the shells it would be helpful)
If you are attempting to acquire money for your collection, the San Diego Shell Club MAY be able to provide an auction venue. However, your collection will have to meet certain criteria. Our experienced team of conchologists will review your collection to determine if it meets the necessary criteria of volume, quality, and value. If favorable, our team will make a recommendation to the Board of Directors to move forward with a Legacy Auction. Additional details of how a Legacy Auction is conducted will be discussed with you following that determination.
We are committed to finding the best home for your collection whether that be as a learning tool for future generations or as additions to some of the most spectacular shell collections of San Diego Shell Club members worldwide.
